Battlecry Event - birth of The Outlaws

This June, four of our members, including two people who have been involved in FIRST for many years, and two people who were brand new to robotics got to attend the Battlecry event at WPI. We met up with a local Vermont FRC team from Rutland, the IBOTs. They showed us around and introduced us to some of the aspects of an FRC event. Our new and older members got a better understanding of the robot game, and learned more about the process of the FRC season.

While we were there, we started brainstorming ideas for our team name, logo, and all around theme. We knew we wanted to do something with pink, because as a team we think it’s important to highlight women in STEM. We also wanted to have a western theme. We thought of some names, including “The Pink Panthers”, and “Rodeo Circuit”, but when someone blurted out “The Outlaws”, I think we instantly knew that would be the one. We felt that The Outlaws symbolises our uniqueness within the Robotics community, as we are a team with both new and experienced members. That same day, we came up with a first rough sketch of our logo, which has gone through many iterations before we settled on our current logo.

We’re looking forward to entering the FRC season as a new team. We’re excited to introduce our new members to the robotics community, and encourage our older members to continue their journey, and advance within FIRST.
