The Outlaws at Girls Behind the Glass

On November 1st, The Outlaws drove out to New Hampshire to spectate the Battle of the Bay. We arrived about half way though and got to watch the alliance selection and the finals, all while preparing for the next day, when we would get to participate in Girls Behind Glass, an all-girls event and the final off-season FRC competition for Into The Deep.

Due to us being a rookie team, we faced multiple challenges in the first half of the competition but were able to overcome them with the help of many teams, especially The Ibots and Rosie Robots as well as event officials.

In our last qualifier round, we moved during autonomous and were able to continuously score coral on L1 during TeleOp, helping our alliance rise and scoring ourselves ranking points. We placed last in the qualifier matches due to the earlier troubles with our robot.

Waiting for final score

However, during alliance selection, we were chosen to be the 4th team of the 2nd alliance that consisted of team 3323, team 6328, team 190, and us. We played defense in the first finals match with teams 190 and 6328. Defense was something that we had little experience with, but with the advice of team 6328 and the Field Technical Advisor (FTA) at the event, we were able to effectively intercept the other team’s scoring to help lead alliance number 2 to victory.

We cheered on our alliance as they swiftly defeated every opposing alliance. The last finals match was extremely intense as we competed against another powerhouse alliance, but we emerged as the victors.

Though we started at the bottom, we were able to rise to the top and win the Girls Behind the Glass event with our alliance, and were awarded a plaque. As a whole, the weekend was a great learning experience, and we are so grateful for the opportunity.
